Frequently Asked Questions About Countertops
Granite, marble, sintered stone, and porcelain are great for the outdoors. Buyer beware: polished marble will etch when left outside.
Choosing the best stone for your countertops depends on your durability and functionality needs, aesthetic preferences, and how you plan to use the space. Our fabrication experts are eager to guide you through your options and offer personalized recommendations on the best type of stone for you. Contact an estimator or email us at info@skylinetile.com to receive expert assistance and make a perfect choice!
No. The only things we would need to provide a quote is a drawing or hand sketch of what you are looking to have made, at least 1 or more material selection(s), idea of edge treatment and backsplash type. (i.e., tile and slab backsplash).
Proper maintenance is key to preserving the beauty and longevity of stone countertops. Some natural stones, like granite and marble, require periodic sealing to prevent staining. Quartz typically does not need sealing. We also recommend using cutting boards and trivets to protect against scratches and heat damage and clean up spills quickly to avoid staining. Rest assured, we will send you a Care & Maintenance information packet that will go over how to protect and clean your new countertops.
Yes, you can. At the end of the project, we will send you a “Care & Maintenance” (link here) that describes what to use and how to use it. If you prefer, we can also offer you a clean and seal service, which we could come by once per year to tend to your counters’ needs. Email your estimator for pricing.

No! That is the beauty of quartz and sintered stone. They do not ever have to be sealed.
Stone countertops can last decades (20-30+ years) with the proper care.

We needed to replace a failing Corian galley counter top on a sailboat. Boats are extremely unforgiving when it comes to repairs of this kind, given that pieces such as this counter top abut structural and other parts that cannot be eased or moved.
This particular piece of work is quite complicated, with numerous angles and apertures needing _exact_ fit. As well, we did some some modifications to the original design based on experience with using the galley, replacing the original wood "fiddle" with the same material as used for the counter itself and changing the inadequate original refrigerator lid hinges to more robust "piano" or continuous hinges. Also there was quite a bit of associated plumbing fixtures and other hardware needing to be reintegrated to the new work surface.
Finally, this work _had_ to be done on schedule as the boat has guest crews booked a year in advance and absolutely had to be ready for service on a firm date.
Ben and Brandon at Skyline _really_ leaned into the project, fully engaged themselves in making this heavy lift possible. I'm older than I care to admit and I can't think of another better example of collaboration with a customer in my experience.
Due to the boat's location it was not possible for Skyline to directly visit the job site to do take-off etc. Instead, Skyline produced a full fidelity plywood template we able able to take to the boat to check fit, mark up as required for tweaks.
All this with amazing patience, given the necessary amount of discussion and communications needed in order to get set up correctly before doing any cutting.
The upshot: perfection. The counter dropped into its intricate nesting place and despite all the numerous intersections with various bits of the boat, it fit perfectly.
We're completely delighted with Skyline Marble and Tile. Cannot recommend them too highly. Permanent addition to charter fleet Rolodex. :-)
