Frequently Asked Questions About Stone Fabrication
Stone/slab fabrication is the process of cutting, shaping, and finishing natural or engineered stone slabs to create custom countertops, floors, walls, and other architectural elements or furniture pieces.
Common materials for fabrication include granite, marble, quartz, quartzite, limestone, soapstone, and engineered stones like quartz and porcelain. Here at Skyline Tile and Marble, we can fabricate almost every type of material you can imagine – just check out our list above.
Important factors to consider are veining, durability, maintenance, aesthetics, and price. Our fabrication experts are more than happy to walk you through your options and provide advice on what material will work best for your space. Please reach out to an estimator or email info@skylinetile.com, and they can help you make the right selection.
The timeline can vary depending on the scope & complexity of the project. However, we typically finish projects ten days after the template is completed unless your project requires an extended fabrication timeline.
We do not have slabs at our shop. We do have a show room that has all of the different quartz and sintered stone options available. If you would like to look at natural stone slabs, please click the link to our Seattle Area material suppliers. (link here)

Yes, you can, but you need to understand that quartz can break if under too much heat. Quartz manufacturers do not offer factory warranties when quartz is used on fireplaces. Skyline no longer warranties fireplaces made from quartz for that reason.
I have been using Skyline Tile & Marble for almost 20 years and will continue to work with them!

We needed to replace a failing Corian galley counter top on a sailboat. Boats are extremely unforgiving when it comes to repairs of this kind, given that pieces such as this counter top abut structural and other parts that cannot be eased or moved.
This particular piece of work is quite complicated, with numerous angles and apertures needing _exact_ fit. As well, we did some some modifications to the original design based on experience with using the galley, replacing the original wood "fiddle" with the same material as used for the counter itself and changing the inadequate original refrigerator lid hinges to more robust "piano" or continuous hinges. Also there was quite a bit of associated plumbing fixtures and other hardware needing to be reintegrated to the new work surface.
Finally, this work _had_ to be done on schedule as the boat has guest crews booked a year in advance and absolutely had to be ready for service on a firm date.
Ben and Brandon at Skyline _really_ leaned into the project, fully engaged themselves in making this heavy lift possible. I'm older than I care to admit and I can't think of another better example of collaboration with a customer in my experience.
Due to the boat's location it was not possible for Skyline to directly visit the job site to do take-off etc. Instead, Skyline produced a full fidelity plywood template we able able to take to the boat to check fit, mark up as required for tweaks.
All this with amazing patience, given the necessary amount of discussion and communications needed in order to get set up correctly before doing any cutting.
The upshot: perfection. The counter dropped into its intricate nesting place and despite all the numerous intersections with various bits of the boat, it fit perfectly.
We're completely delighted with Skyline Marble and Tile. Cannot recommend them too highly. Permanent addition to charter fleet Rolodex. :-)
